Education and Personal Development Programmes
At BornFAPEC, we strongly believe in the transformative power of education and personal development. We design and deliver varied bespoke and culturally tailored wellbeing programmes to meet the needs of our participants. All our programmes are created and delivered by lived experience leaders with their own stories to tell. We partner with Passionate Carers Ltd and other community organisations to deliver programmes like:
This is transformative 12 weeks programme. It offers
self-awareness, emotional recovery, and prevention of
abuse, by walking participants through a step-by-step
road map, taking them from where they are to where they
want to be. At the end of this course, participants
leave with a renewed mind-set, a clear vision and
determination to become lived experience leaders and
community champions.
This is 3 weeks awareness course which educates participants on everything they
need to know about modern slavery – from definition to types of slavery, the impact
and how to seek support. Participants on this course are encouraged to take TYPIG
as a follow up course towards their personal development and emotional recovery.
We do also signpost participants to other community organisations based on their
support needs.
From consulting with members of our community, especially during this pandemic,
we realised that some of them, especially from the BAME communities, wants to re-
develop their spiritual purpose, and they desire to do so in a non-judgmental
environment where they can be supported. Hence, this self-reflection course is
designed for participants who desire to re-ignite their faith and reconnect with God.
thereby, filling the vacuum of spiritual emptiness within them. At the end of the
course, participants leave with a renewed sense of spiritual fulfilment and spiritual
values which drives positive thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
With the increased rate of mental health due to Covid-19 and the lockdown, there is
a dire need for 1-2-1 emotional support for BAME communities to prevent mental
break down. The added anxiety during and post Covid-19 hinders victims to socialise.
Using self-guided and questioning techniques, we encourage individuals to challenge
their limiting beliefs, create desire goals and we support them towards achieving their
gaols.
This 2 sesion course is aimed at enhancing mental resilience. With Covid-19 and the surge in unexpected events, our community is experiencing a high rate of grief and stress. Our BAME community has lost the cultural procedure of grieving, and as a result, many are struggling to find healing. At the end of this course, participants will leave feeling reassured, be able to manage negative emotions, deal with grief and stress, understand the change cycle and find a way forward.
Career Development and Entrepreneurship Programmes
In line with our objectives, we build and boost the confidence of our participants by inspiring and empowering them to transform their mind-sets, unlock their passion and potentials and support them to find and live their purpose. Our career and entrepreneurship programmes stir in them the burning desire to gain employment and become financially independent.
This support programme help participants in creating and implementing an
educational or career plan in line with their purpose and the sustainability of their
chosen area. This course is pivotal for our BAME participants to recognise their
uniqueness and their ability to reach their highest potential, irrespective of who they
are and where they come from. In this 5-week course, we guide our participants to
make informed choices by exploring and sharing statistics on jobs in demand and the
needed changes, especially post Covid-19. At the end of the course, participants
leave with a clearer education or career vision and the confidence to turn that vision
into reality.
Youth Intervention and Prevention Programme
As an organisation created by BAME lived experienced leaders, one of the crises faced within our BAME communities comes from the impact of childhood and domestic abuse on the youths. Statistics show that children are often the most affected victims of domestic abuse. The absence of timely intervention and appropriate support for these victims lead to long-term behavioural challenges.
Through our 1-2-1 services, we identify and support parents and children as early as possible, and signpost them to other services as needed. We also tap into the richness of our inherited community parenting style, especially for single parents. This initiative helps single parents within a closed community to team up with agreed parenting objectives, share knowledge, skills, and parental responsibilities, with the aim of relieving the burden on each other.
We understand the damaging power of guilt and self-blaming, especially amongst
children who witnessed abuse or are victims of abuse. They often carry the
emotional burden and blame themselves which, in turn, affects their thoughts,
emotions, behaviours and their achievements in life. It educates participants on their
citizenship rights and responsibility within the society. This transformative 3-week
course is created with the objective to reassure participants and support them to
escape the cycle of strong negative emotions, resulting from domestic abuse or
other socio- cultural and economic issues. We accept individuals within the age
group of 14 – 21 and at the end of this course, we offer 1-2-1 peer mentoring for up
to 12 months.
Migration and Integration Programme
With the increasing number of Migration, there is a dire need for a culturally tailored, integration programme designed and delivered by African immigrants with lived experience leadership. Migrants are often either forgotten, under-supported with unmet cultural needs, and untapped natural skills. With Covid-19 and the ongoing migration and refugee crisis in the UK, Europe and the world; and the need for compliance to International regulations, we cannot neglect the need for integration, empowerment and policy reforms.
This 12-week 1-2-1 community integration programme creates a welcoming
environment for newcomers and their children in the UK. It ignites a sense of safety
and belongingness in their new home. We identify and link them with settled
migrants of their respective nationalities, pairing them with mentors within the
organisation with the aim to provide emotional and recovery support and assisting
with interpretation. We also unlock participants’ unique skills, encouraging them to
take up volunteering which gives them the opportunity to create social network,
learn faster, reduce isolation and boredom, create some sense of belongingness,
enhance their self-confidence, and prevent mental break-down.
Sensitisation and Advocacy Programme
BornFAPEC also provides sensitisation and advocacy services on socio-cultural and economic issues like domestic abuse, modern slavery, cultural and social exclusion etc. Through our social media pages and organisation website, we post motivation and educative materials and share links and articles to keep our participants informed and inspired.
The Fun Circle Programme
BornFAPEC runs a variety of fun and therapeutic activities. Each week, our participants look forward to something inspiring and engaging.
This is an ongoing weekly afro-beat dance session, which enhances participants’
mental and physical wellness, boost their self-confidence and motivation, enhances
their coordination, agility, flexibility, dancing skills and helps them to network with
like-minded people.
